Chiranjeevi's tough talk at Kukatpally

Praja Rajyam president K. Chiranjeevi on Friday charged the State government with robbing Andhra Pradesh of precious mineral resources.
Addressing a packed gathering at a ground in Kukatpally Housing Board Phase III as part of his ‘Praja Ankitha Sabha’ programme in Ranga Reddy district, he launched a broadside against corruption in practically every government programme..

...and cited the goings-on in Obulapuram mines in Anantapur district as an example.

He said that an estimated Rs. 4.5 crore was earned by the Obulapuram Mining Corporation everyday, while it was paying a pittance to the government as mining cess. With a month’s earnings of the corporation, he said, every primary health centre in the State could be revamped and adequately stocked with medicines.

Likewise, if corruption in high places was curbed, he said, everything that could not be done now with cramped fiscal resources could be achieved. For example, he said, with a mere Rs. 450 crore, social welfare hostels could be well-equipped to make students of the weaker sections comfortable enough for them to study well and perform better.

He told the predominantly middle-class gathering in one of Asia’s largest housing colonies that all they needed was a good job, a roof over their heads that they could call their own, education for their children and healthcare facilities. “For any government, providing these basic facilities is not a big deal. But it is not happening due to vote-bank politics and alarming levels of corruption. I promise to change all that when the Praja Rajyam comes to power,” he affirmed.

Overwhelmed by the cheering crowds, Mr. Chiranjeevi became ‘megastar’ for a while towards the end. Telling them he was being “imprisoned in their hearts”, he asked them what it meant and pat came the roaring response -- ‘Khaidi’ (prisoner) -- referring to a hugely-popular film of his in the past.

The crowds were so large that it took the Praja Rajyam leader’s ‘ratham’ about half-an-hour to navigate through the them, towards Qutbullapur, where he addressed another meeting.

PRP ready to go with any symbol

Praja Rajyam is ready to contest in the coming elections with any symbol that the election commission offers.
The party leader Mr Nagendra Babu, said people have already identified party name and the leader (Chiranjeevi) and they have no qualms about symbol

“Leader himself is a mega symbol for the party. Electronic and print media are very powerful and it is not difficult to know about the symbol being allotted by the EC”, Mr Babu said. He was in Nellore on Wednesday to review all the constituencies in the district and also to interact with Chiranjeevi fans. Speaking to the reporters at Maheswari and Parameswari kalyana mandapam, the venue for the review meetings, he said that they are gearing up to release the election manifesto within a month. He said poverty alleviation, women empowerment and social justice will be prioritised in the manifesto.

KCR guns for 10 LS seats from future ally

HYDERABAD: Tension and suspense has mounted over the last few days as all political parties are eagerly awaiting for the final piece to fall in place for the battelines to be drawn up for the 2009 general and assembly elections. With the Congress confident of going it alone (barring an alliance with the MIM in Hyderabad) and the TDP having tied up with the Left parties, all eyes are now on the Telangana Rashtra Samithi.

In agonising days for the TRS and its president K Chandrasekhara Rao, the bargaining with both the Telugu Desam Party and Prajarajyam Party has now come to a question of two or three more Lok Sabha seats, a clear indication that the TRS chief is more sure of a decisive role at the Centre rather than in the state.

According to sources, the TDP has offered to give the TRS seven Lok Sabha seats of the 19 that fall in the Telangana region. "KCR's focus is the Lok Sabha seats. He has no issue with the number of assembly seats that N Chandrababu Naidu is offering. He is demanding 10 Lok Sabha seats, to which Naidu is not inclined as he too is banking on a role at the Centre in case things don't go too well for him in the assembly polls," said a TDP leader.

Prajarajyam president Chiranjeevi, meanwhile, has offered the TRS 9 Lok Sabha seats and 55 assembly seats of the 119 that fall in the Telangana region. "However, KCR is trying to extract 10 LS seats and 60 assembly seats. The party is hoping that al alliance with either Naidu or Chiranjeevi works out very soon," said a TRS leader.

Even as the bargaining for the seats with the TDP and Prajarajyam is on, KCR is still said to have not given up hope of allying with the Congress. "KCR is eagerly waiting to see which way would the Congress go when the private members bill on Telangana comes up in the Lok Sabha on December 19. If he is satisfied with its stance, he is ready to send feelers to the Congress. Of course, it is another matter whether the Congress would be ready to have a truck with KCR," said the TRS leader.

While KCR appears to back the party which gives him the maximum number of seats, the rank and file in the party are for going with the Prajarajyam rather than the TDP. "Since 2004, the TDP and the TRS have been fighting as bitter rivals in all the elections in Telangana. If the TRS joins the TDP bandwagon, there will be a big exodus in both the parties as local aspirants in each party would not be ready to sit quiet if that seat goes to the alliance partner," said an aide of KCR.

Another factor on which those in favour of joining with the Prajarajyam argue is that the TDP is a suspect among the Telangana voters, while Prajarajyam is untested. "Chiranjeevi need not really go into a spiel on Telangana. KCR is enough to rouse the Telangana sentiment. The PRP president would only have to stand next to KCR," remarked one leader.

Bowing to the pressure from within, KCR has apparently hinted to Chiranjeevi that if the seat-sharing is worked out, he is ready to make an announcement to this effect on December 21 and also hold a joint public meeting with Chiranjeevi in Karimnagar on December 24 where he promises to draw a crowd of over six lakh.

But the final piece is yet to fall in place. "It will happen, may be within the next seven days itself," said a TRS leader. But until then, the suspense continues.

prp may prefer bc candidate for convener

Speculation is rife here that the State leadership of the Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) may prefer a backward class candidate for the post of convener of either the city unit or the district unit of the party, in the backdrop of this section becoming crucial in deciding the electoral arithmetic in the changed political scene.

PRP leaders say it is a foregone conclusion that a leader belonging to the politically influential Kamma community will be made convener of one of the two units, going by the strength and population criterion.

The other unit will be placed under the charge of a candidate belonging to a backward class, so that the PRP can gain an edge over the ruling Congress and the main opposition Telugu Desam Party in the imminent triangular fight.

Considering the importance of Krishna district and Vijayawada in coastal area, the PRP is weighing all options before deciding on the conveners, whose role will be crucial in building up and giving a proper start to the party’s fortunes.

It is because of the politically agile nature of the district that the PRP’s State leadership is buying time to appoint conveners and the process is expected to take another week or 10 days.

Local leaders say clear signals have already been sent to the existing activists, enthusiasts, fans’ association leaders and sympathisers that the district leadership will be placed in the hands of potential candidates to strike a balance between the interests of different sections.

PRP leaders are of the view that extra efforts should be made to win the support of weaker sections and BCs in the run-up to the elections. The party is on the look-out for capable and potential candidates from these sections to project them as its future strength in the district.

Winning chances
A city leader of the PRP says the State leadership will ultimately consider winning chances and political accuracy, rather than community or such factors in choosing leaders for running the party ahead of the elections.

He says a clear message will be sent right from the appointment of conveners at urban and district level.

Even fans associations’ leaders, who are at times emotional about their attachment to the party, are said to have expressed willingness to abide by whatever decision the party takes ultimately.

Pawan to canvass from Feb!

Prajarajyam Party wants to use powerful youth icon Pawan Kalyan’s charisma just before the elections. At present, there is null in PRP’s activity with High Court putting an end to Road Shows and there by Chiru stopped his yatras. While Chiru continues his plan of touring the entire state by January 2009 by conducting grand meetings in each district, Pawan will step into public life in February. He has immense popularity among youth and is very straightforward in his approach. His attitude of not mincing words and daring mentality would be advantage for the party if he canvasses just before the polling time, party sources added. So he will be the trump card for the party when the election mood heats up in the state.

That is why Pawan Kalyan is not actively seen in the party affairs now. He is currently fast finishing his work for S J Surya’s Puli so that he could have time for canvassing at that time. Pawan Kalyan doesn’t not hold back in attacking the opponents unlike his soft-natured brother megastar Chiranjeevi. So the party believes he would be helpful at the elections time.

PR leaders discuss roadmap for future

Faced with apprehensions of a gulf between the Praja Rajyam leadership and the people, the party’s high command went into a huddle on Thursday to chalk out damage-control measures.

Though the fledgling party has had its share of ‘secret’ meetings between party president Chiranjeevi and senior leaders, the latest conclave was significant since it is 100 days that the film star addressed his maiden public meeting at Tirupati on August 26. According to sources, the leaders discussed measures to speed up the process of building an organisational framework in each Assembly constituency and district, besides devising a plan for organising public meetings, in view of the ban imposed by the High Court on ‘road shows’.

Having tasted success in terms of public turnout in all the three legs of Mr. Chiranjeevi’s ‘Praja Ankitha Yatra’ in the north Coastal, Telangana and Rayalaseema districts and keeping in mind the fast-approaching elections, the party managers are determined not to lose out on the advantages of the high visibility of their leader.

Briefing reporters later, party spokesman P. Mitra and Parakala Prabhakar said the exercise of constituting district and Assembly constituency-level committees was almost over and the names would be announced soon.

The meeting discussed in details on how to ensure Mr. Chiranjeevi’s public presence without breaching the law. He said the purpose of the brainstorming session was to devise ways of holding ‘static’ meetings without the party president travelling atop his ‘ratham’.

Party leaders Ch.Harirama Jogaiah, P. Upendra, Tammineni Seetaram and members of the core committee, including C. Anjaneya Reddy, P. Mitra and Parakala Prabhakar, K. Nagendra Babu and party general secretary Allu Aravind were present.

Chiranjeevi offers blood for Mumbai victims

Telugu superstar-turned-politician Chiranjeevi Thursday offered to provide blood from his blood bank for the injured in Mumbai terrorist attacks.He wrote to the Maharashtra chief minister and chief secretary offering blood from Chiranjeevi Blood Bank here.

“We are ready to make required quantity of blood available for the treatment of the injured,” the actor told reporters. Chiranjeevi also appealed to his fans to donate blood and help those being treated.

The founder and president of the Praja Rajyam Party condemned the terrorist attacks and expressed condolences for those killed.

Chiranjeevi said the failure by the central intelligence agencies led to the attack. “The attacks show that terrorists can strike wherever they want. The common man is feeling insecure,” he said.

Chiranjeevi promises 100 BC seats

The Praja Rajyam president, Chiranjeevi, intensified his efforts to win over weaker sections who form a major chunk of voters in the state.
In a bid to woo the Backward Classes, Chiranjeevi said the PR would give utmost priority to the BCs while allotting tickets in the ensuing elections

“We will give more than 100 seats to the BCs in the coming Assembly elections,” he said during a meeting, organised by the PR leadership to observe the 118th death anniversary of Jyothirao Pule in the city.

Praja Rajyam president K. Chiranjeevi on Monday dared Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy to spell out what he did for his birthplace Balapanur in Kadapa district.

At a press conference to announce the entry of former Union Minister P. Upendra into the PR, he wondered why Dr. Reddy was repeatedly criticising him and asking him what he had done for Mogalturu, his (Chiranjeevi’s) native village.

“Dr. Reddy was born in Balapanur, but migrated to Pulivendula. He may have developed Pulivendula, but if I ask him to say what he has done for his native place, what will he reply?”, he asked.

Given the PR president’s obsession with ‘Gandhigiri’ and decency, decorum and etiquette in politics, this is the first time he has directly taken the name of the Chief Minister, that too, after he has been repeatedly criticised on several occasions.

Referring specifically to the flak he got for twirling his moustache and slapping his thigh like he did in the superhit movie ‘Indra’ in Kadapa district, Mr. Chiranjeevi said these actions were signs of a man’s ‘pourusham’ (courage) but not ‘rowdyism or goondaism’. He recalled that Mahatma Gandhi had a lot of ‘pourusham’.

The PR president also defended the party welcoming seniors into its fold, saying they were joining hands not with any aspirations for a position or power but only expressing their concern for the poor and deprived sections

Pulivendula- Special Political Zone? asks Chiru

Congress and Praja Rajyam activists clashed on Wednesday ahead of the Chiranjeevi’s road show at Pulivendula, the home town of the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy. Congress activists hoisted black flags on their houses to protest Chiranjeevi’s visit and held demonstrations wearing black badges

The police officials changed Chiranjeevi’s route and brought him to Pulivendula four-and-a-half hours late. He reached the town at 2.30 pm. Speaking in the town, Chiranjeevi took a few potshots at Dr Reddy. He asked whether Pulivendula was a “special political zone” and whether he needed a passport to enter the town.

He said some people had “drawn a border” and warned him against visiting the town. Is Pulivendula in a foreign country or a border area, he asked. He said Dr Reddy had developed Pulivendula well, he should have developed the state the same way. When contacted by our correspondent, Dr Reddy refused to comment. “I do not want to react. One should notice how smooth things were at Pulivendula when Chiranjeevi came, campaigned and left.”

Pulivendula, the fortress of YSR family for more than three decades, had never extended such a welcome to any other leader. Chiranjeevi''s programme in the town had become doubtful after Tuesday's incidents of Congress workers attacking the vehicles of other senior leaders of Praja Rajyam party but the response of the people washed away all the misgivings.

Thanking the people of Pulivendula for their response, Chiranjeevi brushed aside the attempts by the political rivals to browbeat him by violent tactics. "Do I need a passport or visa to visit this place?" he asked and himself replied. "Your love is my passport and your respect is my visa".

Taking a pot shot at the Congress, he said in the democratic system any body can go any where he wishes to and no body should try to stop him or her.

"Like the special economic zone (SEZ) have you established special political zones too?", he asked the ruling party with out taking is name.

While appreciating the over-all development of Pulivendula, thanks to the fact that it was the constituency of the Chief Minister, Chiranjeevi said that his wish was to see the entire Andhra Pradesh developed like Pulivendula.

"For me every place in this state is like my native place. I was born in Mogalturu village but I have spent my life at so many other places and towns in the state. For me every place is my place", he said promising to work for the development of the entire state on coming to power.

Replying to the question of the Chief Minister Reddy what he had done for his native village Mogalturu, the star said that he had set up his blood bank in Hyderabad and not in Mogalturu to benefit maximum number of people.

The incident of attack on Praja Rajyam party leader in Pulivendula yesterday evoked condemnation from different quarters. The state CPIM secretary B V Raghavulu said that it was the Congress culture to threaten the political rivals by resorting to violence.

State Congress president D Srinivas said that he did not approve any such act and it should be condemned.

A delegation of the PRP leaders led by Dr P Mitra met the state director general SSP Yadav in Hyderabad and demanded action against the culprits.

Police asked to file case against Chiru

The IV Additional Munsif Magistrate has ordered the Kazipet police to register a case against Praja Rajyam president Chiranjeevi under the SC, ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act on a complaint filed by a Scheduled Caste leader that he referred to the community by the name of his caste

Magistrate G. Bhavani Chandra, gave this direction following a complaint by Arepally Kumaraswamy (34) of Karimnagar district, who claimed to be the president of Andhra Pradesh Reservation Parirakshana Samiti. The magistrate wanted the police to investigate into the allegation, register a case under Section 3 (1) (10) of SC, ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and Sections 337, 338,506 and 507 of IPC and submit a report by December 29.

Accusation

Mr. Kumaraswamy said that when he and his associates were waiting at the KUC junction in Kazipet with placards on November 3, Mr. Chiranjeevi who had always promised to work for uplift of the weaker sections called him and enquired as to why they were holding the placards. When Mr. Kumaraswamy tried to remind the PR chief of his promise,Mr. Chiranjeevi who was in his vehicle reportedly said he had nothing to talk to them if they belonged to the Madiga community. He was also accused of asking his driver to move ahead. The complainant and his associate were injured in the process. Mr. Kumaraswamy lodged a complaint with the police who reportedly referred him to MGM Hospital for treatment.

The state government is all set to approve a world class entertainment centre proposed by the popular film actor Akkineni Nagarjuna in the sprawling Annapurna Studios in Banjara Hills.

Though rules permit no other activity than making of films in the land given for the studios, the government has facilitated star hotels, spas, restaurants, malls and service apartments to come up there. All these doles have come Nagarjuna’s way after he pledged his support to the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy. The Akkinenis, one of the most powerful families in the Telugu film industry, have often been seen by critics as pursuing their business interests by favouring whichever party is in power. Nagarjuna’s father, the veteran actor, Nageswara Rao, started out as a Congress supporter. In the 1970s, he successfully persuaded the then Congress government to allot 25 acres in Banjara Hills to build the Annapurna Studios.

“The government allotted 25 acres in 1975 with a condition that it should not be used for any purpose other than making films,” said a revenue official. “It can take back the land in case this clause is violated.” It was on this ground that N.T. Rama Rao decided to haul up Annapurna studios, when he was Chief Minister. Even a timber depot was in operation in the studios. “He was also upset at Nageswara Rao calling on Mr Nadendla Bhaskara Rao during the latter’s short stint as Chief Minister,” said a veteran TD leader. However, Nageswara Rao was reportedly tipped off on the action being planned by NTR by a minister, Mr N. Mohammed Farooq, who was a diehard Akkineni fan.

Nagarjuna also found favour with Mr Naidu and proposed the Formula One track in the city outskirts. The TD government earmarked 2,000 acres at Gopanapalli and Vattinagulapalli for the project.

The young actor and the then Chief Minister also flew to Italy to meet F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone in September 2003. “It was an open secret that Mr Nagarjuna owned lands in the area and wanted to be a partner in the project,” said a senior official who worked in Mr Naidu’s office.

But many in the film circle see Nagarjuna’s decision to campaign for the pet programmes of the Chief Minister as a homecoming. He is now expected to announce his total support for the Congress in the Nandi Awards ceremony.

Former union minister P Shivshankar to join Prajarajyam

HYDERABAD: In what will be the case of the first major political leader to join the party, former union minister P Shivshankar will join the Prajarajyam later this week. Though Shivshankar’s son Vinay is already with the party and part of Chiranjeevi’s core committee, Shivshankar’s entry may open the door for the megastar for accessing the latter’s advice and help on many matters including political alliances.

Shivshankar - now 80 - will be returning to active politics after many years. He left the Congress party in 2004 after questioning Sonia Gandhi about her ability to understand the culture of India in view of her foreign origin.

Analysts say that the entry of Shivshankar who hails from Rangareddy will help Chiranjeevi to garner other backward caste (OBC) votes in the Telangana region.

The veteran had served in various ministries at the Centre for two decades including those of law, justice, petroleum, energy, foreign affairs and human resources. He had represented Secunderabad in the Lok Sabha for two terms and Tenali for one term. Also a Rajya Sabha member for a six-year term, the Congress depended on his legal brain to formulate various strategies.

“He will be used pretty much for the same purpose by Chiranjeevi,” said a political analyst. His son Vinay, a surgeon in Apollo Hospital, left his practice to join the Chiranjeevi bandwagon, a few months ago.

Though sitting MPs Hariram Jogaiah and C Ramachandraiah have joined the party along with other political figures like former industry minister Vidyadhar Rao, political heavyweights have eluded the party. In fact with a view to forming a brand new party on a clean slate, Chiranjeevi has not been encourging induction of political heavyweights into his fold.

Is it Nandi awards or Mahesh,Nag Congress awards?

Hyderabad: Will the Nandi awards presentation to be held on November 16 likely to be used as a platform to project the Congress party in the run up
to the next election?

Analysts think so and point out that for the the first time ever the function is being organised at the Lal Bahadur Stadium in the city which can accommodate up to 50,000 people. This supersedes the earlier practice of holding it at the Telugu Lalitha Kala Thoranam at Public Gardens or at the People’s Plaza on Necklace Road.

Those who are in the know of things say that preparations are being made in such a way that actors Mahesh Babu and his father Krishna, both of whom have agreed to campaign for the Congress are able to use the occasion to root for the ruling party in a big way. Krishna will receive the NTR national award for the year 2003 and Mahesh Babu the best actor award for the year 2006 for his film `Athadu,’ at the Nandi awards presentation function.

The choice of the bigger venue this time, according to sources, is mainly to facilitate thousands of fans of Krishna and Mahesh to crowd the venue.

“Fans of both Mahesh Babu and Krishna will throng the venue in huge numbers from all over the state,” said actor Vijaychander, advisor of the newly formed `Krishna-Mahesh Sena’.

An official source in the AP State Film, TV, and Theatre Development Corporation said the fans associations would also be given passes for entry. “It will be the biggest ever Nandi awards show,” the official said.

However, the official reason for making it a big show is that Nandi awards from 2003-06 will be presented at this function.

There are no big stars other than Nagarjuna and Mahesh Babu who will receive awards. This will facilitate Mahesh Babu to hog the limelight in such a way that the Congress gets the most mileage out of it.

“We are even making face masks of Mahesh for his fans to wear at the function,” an actor in the Krishna-Mahesh camp said.

Chiru's Rayalaseema Tour from 12th Nov.

Chiranjeevi's Rayalaseema Praja Ankitha Yatra would start from 12th of this month.
On 12th he would be touring in Ananthapur district and till 17th he would complete it in Kadapa district

In Uttar Andhra and Telangana he is touring in three districts each but in Rayalaseema he would be touring in two districts. Rayalaseema first phase would comprise of Kadapa, Ananthapur, next schedule would comprise of Chittoor and Kurnool.

1.16 lakh members enrol for Praja Rajyam in Krishna

Rajyam Party (PRP) is conducting its membership drive in all the 16 Assembly constituencies in the district, even as the party leaders are happy over the response from the public.
The city is stated to have recorded the highest enrolment so far in the entire district

PRP district monitoring committee coordinator Bunga Saradhi and members G. Gopi Sridhar and G. Nagaraja Kumari have said that over 2 lakh membership forms were sold till now to enthusiasts and fans coming from every nook and corner of the district.
Of these, nearly 1.16 lakh people had taken membership and the district office received receipts to this effect.
Mr. Saradhi told The Hindu that they were expecting to get a total membership of nearly 5 lakh in the district in the current drive.
The enrolment in the city covering the three Assembly constituencies reached 26,440 so far.
Membership drive was also very enthusiastic in Nuzvid, which came in second place after the city.
It was followed by Tiruvuru, Machilipatnam and so on.

Focus on women

The PRP leaders said that to give a push to the membership drive, women teams were being formed especially to focus on the women membership.
One such team formed with T. Padma and M. Jhansi got 2,000 women enrolled in the party in just two days. These teams would be concentrating on 100 villages in the next 10 days.
Mr. Saradhi alleged that the ruling party was bringing pressure in different forms on people not to join the PRP and in some cases beneficiaries under different Government schemes were being threatened with discontinuing their benefits if they considered going to the PRP fold.
“We appeal to the Congress leadership not to resort to such tactics.
This is not in the best interests of political parties,” he added.
Mr. Saradhi demanded that the Government conduct a meeting with the Joint Action Committee of AP Teachers’ Organisations (JACTO) and resolve their problems in a peaceful manner.
He deplored that the studies of students were affected as 80,000 schools stopped functioning because of the teachers’ strike.

Tribal woman gets Praja Rajyam assembly ticket

A tribal woman from PSR Nellore district will be the first candidate to get a ticket from the Praja Rajyam to contest in the Assembly elections. PR president Chiranjeevi announced the name of Ms Tupakula Munemma from Pambali village in Vakadu mandal. Ms Munemma participated in many social agitations right from her childhood

She had also actively participated in tsunami rehabilitation programme. She became popular when she fought successfully against a forward social community who occupied land belonging to STs. The district collector himself accepted her fight and the land was restored. Ms Munemma, supported by an NGO, used the Right to Information Act to unearth hundreds of acres which was captured by well-to-do people.

Chiranjeevi's 7 day telangana tour

Chiranjeevi would start his second round of state tour from 30th October in four districts.
Telangana tour is being keenly watched as it has emerged as a key issue in the next general elections. Chiru will address meetings in Warangal, Karimnagar, Nalgonda and Khamman from October 30 to November 5

T R S is confused for alliance as they are not able to digest turnout of public for Chiru meetings. Chiru is expected to make his party’s stand clear on the T state. There may not be surprises as more or less he made his party stand clear during his first public meeting in Tirupati.

Social Justice possible with PRP : Pawan Kalyan

Chiranjeevi adjusting with low security

Chiranjeevi has to adjust with whatever security the government provides him for his ongoing tours. The director-general of police, Mr S.S.P. Yadav, said that the government will provide security based on threat perception.” “There will be enough security to cover him wherever he goes,” Mr Yadav said

He evaded a direct reply when asked whether the Praja Rajyam or Chiranjeevi had requested for additional security.
Speaking on the Police Commemoration Day on October 21, Mr Yadav said security will be provided to people according to requirements and not according to request. Replying to questions on the terror suspects caught by the Mumbai police, the DGP said that one Naveed was picked up by the Mumbai police for questioning.

“He has been already released. The investigation will begin only when the suspects are handed over to the AP police,” Mr Yadav said. “The legal process has begun to bring them to Hyderabad.” Mr Yadav said that the government took care of families of those police personnel who were killed by terrorists. He said the families would be provided a house, free education apart from other schemes.

HYDERABAD: With his vocal chords getting a much-needed rest as he is ‘cooling off’ from the heat of the North Coastal Andhra tour, Praja Rajyam president Chiranjeevi is getting ready for a tour of Telangana.

His campaign managers are chalking out options for him to tour Nalgonda, Khammam and Warangal, in that order. Initially, he appeared keen on taking nine to ten days each, to cover three districts each in Andhra, Rayalaseema and Telangana districts, on his ‘Praja Ankitha Yatra’.

However, after Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam districts left him exposed to the heat and dust and affected his voice, the party Core Committee did not wish to take any chances. Instead, it is toying with different options.

Chiranjeevi may start phase II of his yatra on October 24. While it is almost a certainty that he will tour Nalgonda next, the party managers are looking at alternatives.

There is plan ‘A’ of covering Nalgonda, Khammam and Warangal, in a whirlwind manner, taking six days in all. The plan ‘B’envisages two days for each district and back to Hyderabad for a break.

Pavan hoists flag

It may be recalled that Mr. Pavan Kalyan spent two days covering 14 Assembly constituencies in and around the State capital and hoisted the party’s flag in all those places.

Chiranjeevi disturbed with internal clashes in PRP

Chiranjeevi had to abruptly cancel his tour due to sore throat from Visakapatanam titled Praja Ankita Yatra. He would resume his tour, this time from Telangana, after Diwali.
According to film nagar sources, he is unlikely to start his second phase of Yatra for another three to four weeks

Though the reason is attributed to doctors' advice to take rest, but some sources say that Chiru is a bit disturbed with the internal clashes between fans and leaders.

Chiru stated to his colleagues that he would first focus on constituting the party executives at all levels, before going into public, because there was no point in being the president of the party, which has no organization, he thought that if there was an organization structure then it would be easier to delegate duties to the party cadres during his tour.

Chiru is interacting with fans association before anything. P R P has been officially recognized by E C. Now party must streamline all activities and keep aside controversial and greedy people and try to serve public.

Nagababu and Pawan Kalyan not to contest elections

Praja Rajyam president Chiranjeevi’s brother Nagababu made it clear that he along with his brother Pavan Kalyan would not contest the ensuing polls in the state.
He arrived here to take part in a party meeting on Saturday. Later, speaking to newsmen, he said that groupism in the party would no longer be tolerated and those who encourage it would be dealt with severely

Referring to the entry of leaders into Praja Rajyam from several other political parties, Mr Nagababu said that they were joining the party as they were interested in the party goals and objectives and added that in a democratic setup everyone has a right to join any party of his or her choice. However, he made it clear that only those who comply with the party norms would be given the responsibility and said that Chiranjeevi’s fans would also be given prominence. He expressed confident that the Praja Rajyam would win nearly 200 seats with 20,000 majority each in the ensuing polls for the Legislative Assembly.

Mr Nagababu said that all districts, including West Godavari, which is the home turf of Chiranjeevi, would be given equal prominence. With regard to party’s stand on Kolleru issue, he felt the need to conserve and protect the lake from environmental point of view. He said that the party high command would decide on possible alliances with other parties for the polls

Chiru refutes charges of IT evasion

PRP president Chiranjeevi sharply reacted to the allegations that he evaded payment IT. Addressing the crowds at Ravikamatam ( Vizag district) road show today, he said that those who made such charges should know that he had received the Best Sanman Award (from IT department). "Some leaders are amassing wealth through backdoor methods and are evading tax payments," he counter charged. "My assets are like open books. I have come into politics not for money or luxuries. My whole and sole aim is to root out political corruption and bring social justice. I request the youth to think before they vote. They should work for the social change. It is like a silent war against corruption."

Pawan Kalyan salvo to Chiru's critics

PRP leader and actor Pawan Kalyan today received huge response to his Ranga Reddy district tour. Knowing that the actor was coming to Ibrahimpatnam for hoisting the party flag, thousands of people from the surrounding villages thronged the venue. Due to heavy crowds, Pawan Kalyan found it difficult even to reach the venue, but he could make it there. Hoisting the party flag and inaugurating the office, he just waved to them and returned without addressing the gathering. However, he spoke at Maheswaram. "I appeal to you to teach a lesson to the leaders who are resorting to vote bank politics. Now I question those who have questioned the entry of Annayya (Chiru) into politics. From whom did you (the political leaders who criticized Chiru) take permission for coming into politics?"

Chiranjeevi to support seperate Telangana state

Praja Rajyam chief Chiranjeevi will announce his party’s support to the separate Telangana state movement in a fortnight.
Sources close to the actor-turned-politician said he would make the announcement during the second round of his ongoing Praja Ankita Yatra in Telangana districts later this month.

Chiranjeevi, after interacting with party leaders from coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema areas, dropped sufficient hints about the party’s stand on the contentious issue.

The party leadership had come under pressure after the Telugu Desam came out in support of statehood for Telangana last week. The TD move was meant to win over the Telangana Rashtra Samiti which, it hopes, will be a crucial poll ally. Both the TRS and the Nava Telangana Praja Party of Mr T. Devender Goud, a former Telugu Desam leader, have dropped enough hints that they would prefer to sail with the PR if it comes out in clear support of statehood.

"Chiranjeevi wanted to announce the party stand when tours Khammam and Nalgonda districts from October 25. By that time we are expecting more clarity on the alliance between TRS and TD," said a senior PR leader. The party think-tank has been asked to finalise the vocabulary to express its support to the separate state movement in a way that would not hurt the sentiments of its followers in the Andhra and Rayalaseema areas.

Deliberations are going on in the party on whether it is enough to announce that the PR would not come in the way of the formation of Telangana state or if a more lucid statement has to be made in support of statehood Sources close to Chiranjeevi said that he had himself made it clear to senior party leaders that he would not like to beat around the bush on the sensitive issue. "After talking to him it was clear that our statement on Telangana would more lucid than any other party," said a former minister who joined the PR recently
