Chiranjeevi touring Krishna District on Wednesday asserted that his party was the only alternative before people who were vexed with the Congress and the TDP.“Though both parties are equally corrupt, people are forced to elect one or the other for want of an alternativeNow, they have a better party to elect,” Mr. Chiranjeevi said, addressing a public meeting at Nuzvid on Wednesday.The PR president’s tour of Krishna district began more than two hours behind schedule due to a technical snag to his helicopter.He addressed the first meeting at Tiruvuru, followed by Nuzvid, Gannavaram and Kondapalli in Mylavaram constituency.Reaching all the places by road resulted in enormous delay, and his scheduled tour of Vijayawada did not materialise for the second time, disappointing the party candidates in fray in the three constituencies of the city. Mr. Chiranjeevi left for Hyderabad by a train late in the night.At Nuzvid, Mr. Chiranjeevi accused the TDP of aligning with the Left and the TRS only because it understood that it was “a sinking boat” and lost its sheen. The Left parties too had thrown their morals and ideologies to wind by joining the Grand Alliance.Rejecting Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s allegation that he did nothing for his native village Mogalturu in West Godavari district, Mr. Chiranjeevi said: “if Praja Rajyam comes to power, we will turn every village in the State into a Mogalturu. The Chief Minister has failed to ensure development of other parts of the State on a par with his home constituency Pulivendula.”Taking exception to the comment that he did not have the capability to stay in politics, he said: “I have been in number one position in the film industry for 25 years. More so, the people’s support to me is enough to prove that I have capabilities and strength.”Though Mr. Chiranjeevi reached Gannavaram at 6 p.m., about six hours late, scores of his fans and the activists of the party waited patiently.Though visibly tired, the PR president impressed the gathering with his gestures and punch lines.Amidst whistles and hoots from the crowd, he said: “I am very fortunate to enjoy your love for three decades as a film hero. Now it is my turn to provide something for you and I entered into politics to honour your wish.”People, particularly youngsters, competed for a close glimpse of Mr. Chiranjeevi. While some of them tried to stand near the campaign van, many others chose to stand on the roofs of the nearby buildings. The crowd cheered lustily, when Mr. Chirajeevi waved.People waited on either side of the road between Gannavaram and Vijayawada to welcome their matinee idol. Holding party flags, youngsters rode motorcycles on the stretch between Gannavaram and Vijayawada. As the entire police force, including the traffic personnel, was deputed to Gannavaram and because of people waiting for the arrival of Mr. Chiranjeevi occupying the road, vehicular traffic went haywire in Vijayawada. Junctions like Ramavarappadu Ring, Executive Club, Nirmala Convent and NTR Circle witnessed traffic jam.
